ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Training Institute® instructor led classes provide preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to proactively handle a violent critical incident or active shooter event. Whether it’s an attack by an individual person or by a group, ALICE proactive options-based strategies have become the preferred response, versus the traditional “lockdown only” approach.

Protection and safety must be the priority in an active shooter event. ALICE Training Institute empowers individuals to participate in their own survival in the face of violence. Circumstantial and operational concerns vary in every new situation. Every individual, staff and student should be empowered to make survival decisions in these events.  ALICE Training provides active shooter response classes that address the unique challenges specific to K-12 Schools.

Raising the Bar in School Safety & Security
Each school day, our nation’s schools are entrusted to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for millions of elementary and secondary students in public, private and charter schools.  Families and communities expect schools to keep their children safe from all threats including man-made emergencies such as active shooter events or violent critical incidents.  Schools should and can take steps to plan and prepare to mitigate these threats.  Every school EOP should include courses of action that will describe how students and staff can most effectively respond to an active shooter situation to minimize the loss of life. No single response fits all active shooter situations however, making sure everyone knows his or her response options to react quickly and decisively will save valuable time.

School Security: A Duty to Protect

Since Jefferson founded public education for the citizens of the United States, schools have been charged with the safety of children in their care – a duty to protect. Teachers and administrators have a responsibility to anticipate potential dangers and to take precautions to protect their students from those dangers. ALICE proactive options-based strategies are taught to all staff and students through e-Learning and hands-on drills to ensure retention. Participants not only understand their response options when faced with a violent critical incident but are empowerd to use these survival strategies based on their situation.

ALICE Training: The Standard of Care

If a school district fails its duty to protect students from injury and an appropriate standard of care was not used, the district can be found negligent. ALICE Risk Assessments ensure you make the right move toward safety with a comprehensive review of your building, processes, procedures, training, insurance policy and EOP. Our Risk Assessors are PSP® certified which translates to protecting you on multiple levels.  Our priority is the safety of your staff and students while protecting you, your school and your school district. The standard of care is not a statute or regulation that can be pointed to and expounded upon. The standard of care is a concept that is argued in courtrooms requiring school districts to answer questions like:

1.  Did you comply with federal & state recommendations?
2.  Is your policy consistent with comparable schools?
3.  Did you comply with your own stated policy?
